I am a Qualified and Registered Counsellor, EFT Practitioner and Clinical Supervisor.

I have been offering therapy for individuals and groups for over 25 years in Primary Care (NHS), Social Services, The Charity Sector and in Corporate organisations. Before I trained as a counsellor I worked in residential, outreach and day care settings with people with mental health needs. If I’m honest with you, all I’ve ever done is work with people and it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.

Let me say this; therapy is not always gentle. It can be challenging, exhausting and you may decide you need to make difficult changes to your life. But when you really address what is getting in the way of your most authentic life; the life in which you can be most truly You, there is a gentleness in that. An acceptance of yourself, others and each present moment …

What you can expect from me

My original training is in the Person-Centred Approach. I will offer you a very special therapeutic relationship in which you can expect my compassionate presence while you take your own unique journey . I will listen to you, support you, respect and encourage you and work at your pace. If you choose I will offer you tools to support you to feel better in the present whilst you process the past (and it’s impact on the now), and begin to look to your future. My professional and personal journeys have led me to study and qualify in a wide variety of therapeutic approaches (most recently Therapeutic Coaching which included clinical hypnotherapy, NLP and EFT) and this means I can discuss with you throughout our journey together how I can support you best. These different modalities mean we can engage your whole ‘self’ in your healing. You might experience this as working with your mind (conscious and unconscious), body, energy, emotions, spirit, nervous system. I work on Zoom or In-Person in my therapy room or in an agreed natural space.

What I ask for from you

The most important thing to say is that therapy is a collaboration between client and therapist in which we both commit to the journey of self-discovery you are embarking on. It works best when you commit to regular sessions, continue the process between sessions and try to be as honest as possible with me especially if I get something wrong or you want something to change in our approach. I recognise therapy is a huge investment in yourself so It’s important we openly discuss anything that might be getting the way of the outcome you desire.

Specialisms

Due to my training and my own personal story I have developed a particular set of specialisms. However I work with the person in front of me so please get in touch if you wish to work with me and you don’t see your particular issue listed here. If I am not the best person to help you I will try to refer on to someone better suited. I work with:
  • People who exhausted, burned out, or stressed (you perhaps know you need help but feel too time poor for therapy! I encourage you to make time now!)
  • People who have experienced trauma and wish to work through their trauma using highly effective but safe and gentle approach

  • People who feel lost, unable to be themselves or that they don’t really know themselves and who want to learn how to live an authentic life.
  • People who have want to engage with themselves as a part of nature. Or use nature as part of their healing and/ or have concerns or anxiety about environmental/ climate issues
  • People who have chronic illness and/or pain and who feel that emotional issues, trauma, or patterns they play out in life might have a part to play in their healing
  • People!

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/Tapping)

I had been working as a counsellor for 20 years before coming across EFT and I’m going to be honest with you and tell you I was very very sceptical! But I tried it, first as a client and then learned to offer it to my clients and my goodness, was I surprised!

EFT has turned out to be what I call ‘the missing link’ in my practice. It still has all the things I love about talk therapy: it is gentle, client-centred, collaborative, is offered in a therapeutic relationship and has a therapeutic direction. But on top of that we work with the body, the energetic/emotional system and the nervous system by tapping on the meridian points as we talk. It has protocols to work safely with trauma, shift limiting beliefs, work with pain and unexplained symptoms in the body, and all emotional content, as well as phobias and cravings. And what’s more once you’ve learned to tap you have this simple tool for life!

I now work with EFTPlus as a tutor and facilitator to help spread the word about this amazing therapy. See our work here at EFTPlus Ltd

Groupwork

Ah this is another great love of mine! I’ve been working with groups all my working life and for me there is nothing as special as seeing a group come together and support one another to explore their difficulties and share experiences. In groups there is so much more scope for clients to explore how they relate to others, try out new behaviour in a safe space and often I am taken aback by how much the group members become one another’s therapists, bravely showing up for each other. I have a Foundation Certificate in group work skills from the University of East Anglia and was also lucky enough to train in person-centred group work with Dave Mearns at Strathclyde University
